“Botanical Wave” & “Slice”, Mary Angers
Artist Statement
Mary C Angers is a multi-disciplinary artist, working in two and three dimensional media as well as video, television, light and computer generated work. Her themes are self-created but also inherent to the sites she works on. The themes include historical timescapes, biological, natural, cellular, and otherwise scientific and earth and body related; ecologically related to the rhythms and cycles of life and events in life; and experimenting with coordinate and orthogonal space; and always related to a highly contemporary and technological view of all of the aforementioned. In the end she tries to focus on an energy, and inceptional moments with an eye towards beauty sometimes gone unnoticed in her areas of interest.
Botanical Wave: The Twisted Botanical Wave is trying to show how the actions of gravity impact a natural wave. I see them as ascending from a rectilinear type of form and then becoming more edge-like.
Slice: This sculpture is showing X and Y space in Coordinate Geometry. There is X, Y and Z space; and this shows the X and Y planes. It is also the antithesis of large bulky sculpture. It is meant to be slender and graceful and while looking at edge of it you see a line as well as the shapes.
