Richard Wilt Legacy Gifting Program Continues 2015
Richard Wilt Legacy (1915-1981)
River Gallery + Exhibits and the Wilt family are pleased to announce that the Richard Wilt Legacy (1915 - 1981) Museum Gifting Program continues. River Gallery + Exhibits was hired by the Wilt family in 2012 to launch the Museum Gifting Exhibition. Over 150 works were displayed in the gallery in historic downtown Chelsea, Michigan and over 60 works were placed in 9 museums throughout the country. During that exhibition, a part of the collection was offered for sale to private collectors and 75% of the proceeds from those sales were donated to the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design, resulting in $10,000 being gifted to the Richard Wilt Scholarship in 2012. His work includes paintings, watercolors, and drawings.
Richard Wilt was generous with his art. If a friend while visiting his studio remarked, “I like that”, Richard was quick to make a gift of it. To his students he gave his energy, his knowledge and his support. His family is extending that generosity. The Richard Wilt Legacy: A Museum Gifting Program offers an opportunity for museums to select artworks for their permanent collections. Works will be gifted to museums at no charge on a first come first serve basis. The Wilt family seeks to share with the public artworks by this American painter who always followed his own bent and spent his life pursuing and mastering diverse subjects and altering his approach in inventive ways.
Most works are on site at River Gallery + Exhibits and anyone interested in seeing them in person can call the office at 734.433.0826 to set up an appointment.
